What we do

Our aim is to empower our clients and help them live the life they desire.

Collaboration is at the heart of Smart Divorce's service.

It's not about winning or losing; it's about discovering the optimal path to embark on this next chapter of your journey.

We will collaborate closely with key individuals, including your lawyer, to ensure that both the legal and financial aspects are seamlessly integrated, and can also connect you with other professionals such as mortgage advisers, counsellors and divorce coaches.

Our aim is to guide you towards accepting compromises that enable you to move forward with your new life. Ultimately, we will provide guidance as you navigate the financial implications that arise from divorce.

In the medium term, we’ll help you plan to pay off your mortgage, provide your children with the best opportunities, and enable you to live the life you've always wanted. And in the long term, we'll ensure that you can retire on your own terms, free from the lingering financial implications of divorce that may otherwise haunt you for years and decades to come.

Who we help

Our six step process

Through our six-stage process, we provide you with the necessary tools and guidance to navigate the complexities of financial planning, investment, retirement and divorce. Here's a closer look:

First Contact

We’ll speak with you to establish your circumstances and your priorities. At the same time, you can find out how we work, so you can trust and feel confident in us and our service.

Discovery

We’ll use our first full meeting to listen to you, find out more about your current situation and discover what you want to achieve from your settlement and your new chapter. You can also ask any questions you may have. We will then collect factual information to help us to guide you through the negotiations to your financial settlement.

Research and planning

We’ll give information on your current financial status and any financial products you may have, such as investment bonds, ISAs, collectives and life assurance. We will help you to understand the amount of the marital assets that you need and help you prepare to negotiate either in mediation or through your lawyer.

We will continue to support you throughout the process, including if court becomes necessary or advised by your legal team. We will also show you the implications of any offers from your ex on your future lifestyle and propose amendments to them to make them acceptable.

Once your financial settlement has been achieved, we will research suitable products for you if you receive a pension share or lump sum, or to help to rebuild your wealth if you have provided the pension share or lump sum. We will also review your financial protection and recommend any changes required.

Recommendations

We’ll give information on your current financial status and any financial products you may have, such as investment bonds, ISAs, collectives and life assurance. We’ll advise on what you can do to improve your financial situation, so you can make the most of your existing financial products and plan for later life.

Implementation

This is the point where we make sure you’re entirely comfortable with the financial plan that has been drawn up and we put our recommendations in place. We set up new investments and financial products that we have agreed are right for you and keep a firm eye on your finances to make sure they are in order.

Review

As time passes, your needs, circumstances and goals may evolve, so we’ll regularly review your plan with you, and we make changes when and where necessary. That means we can make sure your money is continuing to work as hard as possible for you, putting you in the best position to achieve your objectives. At the same time, you can get in touch with us whenever you like, if you believe any changes need to be made.

Don't just take our word for it

Here's what our clients say

I have had the pleasure of working with Tamsin during my divorce and for pensions advice. In both areas Tamsin applied her vast experience and up-to-date knowledge to the counsel she offered, whilst applying her engaging and kind approach to challenging conversations. Tamsin prioritised my needs and made sure that I had the best possible outcome – I wouldn’t want anyone else in my corner. Please look no further if you need help with either a divorce or pensions advice, Tamsin comes very highly recommended and will forever have my gratitude.

Danielle Peel Adams

I just wanted to say thanks again for all of your help last year, your swift and efficient response significantly reduced my stress levels at the time and your report was really useful in helping us to come to an agreement about the financial settlement. 😊

Paulette Forbes

During my divorce my solicitor advised me that I needed to get independent financial advice and Tamsin was recommended to me by a friend. I am so glad that I went with Tamsin as her no nonsense, common sense, logical approach meant that I was able to come to a financial settlement without going to court. Tamsin explained everything to me in a way that I could understand, and she fully appreciates the fact that getting divorced is on occasions overwhelming, especially when things are more complicated than you had ever imagined they would be.

The report that Tamsin produced for me was based on the facts and what she suggested I offer to try and reach a settlement was both fair and reasonable. If Tamsin had not got involved, I would have ended up having to go to court, spending a fortune and causing myself and my children continued uncertainty and hardship.

I would whole heartedly recommend Tamsin and Smart Divorce – honest, professional, knowledgeable, and perhaps most importantly for me empathetic.
